Friday 10/29, on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, Ron Christie (the Republican's talking head) said the Conservatives were concerned about Obama's decision to get involved with Libya because "the president didn't have a plan." I wonder if he meant it like Bush having a plan in Iraq?
Hmm. Let's see:
Libya: Dictator = Dead; American lives lost = 0; Cost = $1 billion (all to be reimbursed)Iraq: Dictator = Dead; American lives lost = Nearly 4500; Cost = $1 trillion ($? to be reimbursed)
In all fairness, I was in favor of going into Iraq ... as long as there was a plan, which there wasn't. However, the continued criticism of Obama's shrewd "lead from behind" maneuver appears to be quite baseless and makes the Republican's look more helplessly lost than their televised debates. I guess the best thing about an incumbent presidential candidate is there is one less set of said mindless debates.
I consider myself a Moderate in truest sense of the term (i.e. I voted for Obama, Franken and Bachmann in 2008) and I will continue to vote for the individual that makes the most sense and appears to be able to accomplish the most from their elected position. I have zero ties to any political party and may have voted for Romney in 2008 ... had he been nominated the Republican candidate or ran as an Independent.
That being the case, the continue attacks on the Obama administration only stand to further divide the country at the worst possible times. "We the people" spend too much time listening to the baseless and biased pontificating of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Keith Olbermann, Mark Levin, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Dennis Miller, Maher, etc. and we need to realize that as much as these folks are politically biased, they are (also) entertainers and are "out of touch" with the general public.
This whole childlike assessment of any administration, by the opposing political party is becoming almost comedic. It's almost like two jealous children fighting over a toy. You Criticized Nixon, so we'll criticize Carter. You criticized Carter, so we'll criticize Reagan and so on. Perhaps it's no wonder I choose to watch mindless cartoons like Adventure Time or SpongeBob SquarePants over the ranting of the "Liberal Media" or the opponents thereof. I guess the philosophy of "garbage in / garbage out" applies to politics as well as anything else.
Hopefully, the 2012 presidential election will result in American's voting not just with their hearts, but with their heads as well. And if the last forty years of politics has taught us anything, it's that this country is continually bogged-down by our two-party system. As we preach political freedom to politically bereft and oppressed countries throughout the world, maybe we need to take a serious look at ourselves to determine if our bi-partisan political mess is an example we should be propagating on an international basis.
Maybe the "Occupy" folks are the beginning of this movement, or at least a small sample of change. Are they really opposed to the one percent, to Wall Street, or are they opposed to a system burdened with (the metaphorically rich) special interests groups, lobbyists, sacred cows and ham-handed, pork-barrel politics? In any case, the half-truths of each party and every politico serve no purpose other than to cloud the important issues. Let?s sort through this mess and determine who ?we? want running the government ? not who ?someone else? believes should be in control! There are far too many important issues to not take our future elections without the sincerity they deserve.
This is OUR time!
